Someone there to listen
Our counselling service provides free, professional therapeutic support to people who may otherwise struggle to access mainstream mental health services.
The service is an important part of Social Bite's wider mission to end homelessness and create lasting change. Alongside housing, employment support, community programmes, and other services, counselling helps address the underlying issues that can prevent people from moving forward.
Every conversation matters.
Every breakthrough matters.
And every person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and build a brighter future.
By investing in therapeutic support, we are not only helping individuals overcome challenges today, we are also helping create stronger, healthier communities for tomorrow.
Together, we can ensure that nobody has to face their struggles alone.
Because sometimes, the first step towards changing a life is simply having someone there to listen.
A new extended, professionally recognised service
We're delighted to announce that from September 2026 we're extending the offer of therapeutic and psychological support through Social Bite Counselling Service to our charity partners.
We know that life can present many challenges, and having the right support at the right time can make a significant difference.
Our counselling service has been operating for four years and has recently achieved Pre-Recognition status from Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). This reflects our commitment to delivering a high-quality, ethical service in line with COSCA's Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and represents an important step towards achieving full COSCA Recognition.
Counselling sessions are provided by experienced, qualified professionals, and in the coming weeks carefully supervised final-year counselling students who have been assessed as competent and fit to practice, will also be working with our service, ensuring clients receive safe, compassionate, and professional support.
Why we offer a counselling service
For many people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, the challenges they face are more complex and go far beyond finding a place to sleep. Many of the mental health challenges people experience are rooted in trauma, loss, adversity and difficult life experiences. Without the opportunity to process these, moving forward can often be incredibly difficult.
Many of the people we support have experienced significant adversity. This can include childhood trauma, relationship breakdown, abuse, bereavement, addiction, social isolation and financial hardship. These experiences can have a profound effect on confidence, wellbeing, and the ability to engage with other people and support services.
This is where Social Bite's Counselling Service makes a real difference as an important part of our wider mission to create lasting change through housing and employment support.
How our counselling service works
We offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to talk openly about these experiences through one-to-one sessions either in-person or online.
We focus on building confidence, resilience, and supporting people to feel heard, valued, and understood because at Social Bite we believe that lasting change comes through self-awareness and honest understanding rather than advice or quick fixes.
Each of us has a story to tell and while we cannot change the chapters which have already been written, we can develop fresh understanding of ourselves and use that to shape what comes next. We all deserve the opportunity to be more than what has happened to us and to become the authors of our own lives.
When someone begins to re-discover self-esteem and confidence, they are often better able to engage with housing services, employment opportunities, education, healthcare, and community activities. This in turn leads to stronger relationships and a greater sense of stability and control.
